lakshmi
1 yrs, Tirunelveli • vertebroplasty
"Severe back pain in elderly people should never be ignored. 🦴 This is the story of a 77-year-old patient, Lakshmi, who suffered from severe back pain and had difficulty even sitting or walking. An X-ray raised suspicion of an L1 vertebral fracture, and an MRI confirmed a fresh fracture. Due to her age and weak bones, a minimally invasive procedure called vertebroplasty was performed. The result? She was able to walk the very next day and is now able to sit comfortably, watch TV, read and do her daily activities independently. ❤️ 👉 Persistent or sudden severe back pain in older adults can sometimes be related to a vertebral compression fracture. Early evaluation and appropriate treatment can make a significant difference. If you or an elderly family member has persistent back pain, consult an orthopaedic or spine specialist rather than ignoring it."

25 yrs, Tirunelveli • Elbow plating and SSG for the knee
" severe road traffic accident. A long road to recovery. A 30-year-old patient, Kannan, was brought to our casualty following a road traffic accident with multiple serious injuries — including a right elbow supracondylar fracture, extensive degloving injury below the knee, and a severe crush injury to the right foot. The second toe had a severe laceration with exposed bone. Despite initial debridement, the damaged skin developed necrosis. The necrotic toes required amputation, followed by Split Skin Grafting (SSG) to cover the remaining raw and partially necrosed areas. Thankfully, the graft healed well. After K-wire removal and rehabilitation, the patient was mobilized and is now walking well again. 🙏 In this video, hear Kannan share his recovery journey in his own words. ⚠️ Severe trauma injuries require early assessment, appropriate surgical management and careful wound care."

Knee Replacement Ellarukkum Thevaya? Doctor Explains
s knee replacement surgery necessary for osteoarthritis of the knee? The answer is not always. Treatment depends on the grade (stage) of osteoarthritis. Early stages (Grade 1–2): Physiotherapy and muscle-strengthening exercises are the first line of treatment. In addition, injections like Hyaluronic Acid and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) can help reduce pain and improve joint function. Grade 2 (moderate cases): Procedures like High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO) or Proximal Fibular Osteotomy (PFO) can help delay or avoid knee replacement. Advanced stage (Grade 3): When damage is severe, knee replacement surgery may be the best option for long-term relief. Early diagnosis and the right treatment plan can help you avoid unnecessary surgery.
Can Gold Plates Be Used for Fractures? | Doctor Explains
Gold does not have enough tensile strength, so it can bend under stress and is not suitable for fixing fractures. In orthopedic treatment, we commonly use: ✔️ Stainless steel plates ✔️ Titanium plates These materials provide the strength and stability required for proper bone healing. Another important point: 👉 MRI scans are generally not preferred with stainless steel implants 👉 Titanium plates are MRI-compatible and offer better advantages in many cases Choosing the right implant plays a crucial role in recovery and long-term outcomes.

Does Coffee Cause Calcium Loss? | Bone Health & Coffee Explained
Is drinking too much coffee affecting your bone health? ☕🤔 Coffee contains antioxidants and can be beneficial in moderation. Quick Questions. Honest Answers
Quick Questions. Honest Answers. As an Orthopaedic Surgeon, these are some things I wish more people understood about recovery and bone health. ❓ What do most people misunderstand after surgery? Many believe complete bed rest is enough after surgery. The truth is — proper guided movement and simple exercises are equally important for recovery. ❓ What is the most underrated treatment? The answer is simple: Exercise. Consistent and proper exercises can help prevent many joint, muscle, and spine-related problems before they become serious. ❓ Which patients inspire me the most? The elderly patients who come struggling to walk… and after treatment or surgery, regain confidence and start walking again. That transformation reminds me why patient recovery is not just about treatment — it is about giving someone their life and movement back. Movement is medicine. Recovery needs action, not just rest.
Your Phone Could Put 20 KG of Load on Your Neck!
Looking down at your phone? Your neck may be carrying much more load than you realize! Your head normally weighs around 4–5 kg, but as you bend your neck forward to look at your phone, the effective load on your neck can increase significantly—reaching around 20 kg or more at deeper angles. Over time, prolonged poor posture may contribute to: ⚠️ Neck and shoulder muscle strain ⚠️ Neck stiffness and pain ⚠️ Headaches in some people ⚠️ Increased stress on the cervical spine ⚠️ Disc-related problems in susceptible individuals ✅ Protect your neck: Keep your neck in a neutral position, bring your phone closer to eye level, and take regular breaks instead of staying bent forward for long periods. 📱 Phone up. Head straight. Less strain on your neck. Small posture changes today can make a big difference to your neck comfort over time.
Does Every Fracture Need Surgery? 🦴 | When Is a Fracture Cast Enough? Doctor Explains
Does every fracture need surgery? No - not every fracture requires an operation! When a fracture happens, the first step is to properly classify and assess the injury. A doctor will look at several important factors before deciding whether surgery is needed. 🔹 Type of fracture • Simple / Closed fracture • Compound / Open fracture • Undisplaced fracture • Displaced fracture 🔹 Patient factors also matter Age, activity level, occupation and functional requirements can influence the treatment decision. For example, with a hand fracture, we also need to consider whether it involves your dominant or non-dominant hand. ⚠️ Simply putting on a cast without proper evaluation can sometimes lead to problems such as malunion, skin complications, stiffness or infection, depending on the type of fracture. 👉 If you have a fracture, don't decide on treatment based on assumptions. Get an X-ray and consult an orthopedic doctor. Once the fracture is properly assessed, your doctor can explain whether casting, splinting, or surgical fixation is the right option for you. The right treatment depends on the fracture - not just the fact that you have one
Cheap & Best Surgery? 🚨 Why Implant Quality Matters in Orthopaedic Surgery
“Cheap and best” - can you really expect both when it comes to surgery? When it comes to orthopaedic surgery, implant quality matters. Plates, screws, nails and other implants play an important role in stabilising a fracture and supporting proper healing. A lower-cost surgery may sometimes be possible because of differences in hospital infrastructure, location or other expenses. But cutting costs by compromising on the quality or certification of implants is not something patients should take lightly. A poor-quality or unsuitable implant can increase the risk of implant failure, loss of fixation and even re-fracture, potentially requiring another procedure. 👉 Don’t choose your surgery based on price alone. Ask your doctor about the implant being used, its quality, certification and suitability for your condition. In surgery, safety and quality should always come first. 🦴
Does Cycling Cause Back Pain? 🚴♂️ | Common Cycling Mistakes That Hurt Your Back
Does cycling cause back pain? Let’s clear the myth! Cycling is a great low-impact exercise and can be beneficial for your joints. But if you’re getting back pain while cycling, the problem may not be cycling itself — it could be your riding posture and bike setup. ❌ Handlebar too low? You may bend too far forward and put extra stress on your back. ❌ Wrong saddle height? A seat that is too high or too low can affect your hip and knee movement and contribute to back discomfort. ✅ Correct bike setup + proper posture = more comfortable cycling. So before you stop cycling because of back pain, check your riding position first! 🚴♂️🦴 If your back pain is persistent or severe, get evaluated by a qualified doctor.
